Hi, I'm Mike Friedmann.
I'm an Executive, Organizational, & Career Coach from
Columbia University in New York.

My practice areas include:
-
Strategic Planning, Goal Setting & Execution
-
People Dynamics, Team Dynamics, & Influence
-
Career Development & Job Hunting
-
Productivity, Organization & Time Management
-
Specialty Needs—including: Accounting & Finance Training; Start-Ups; Imposter Syndrome; Perfectionism

As an organizational psychologist with experience at Harvard Business School, IBM, and Columbia University, I’ve worked with some 300 clients over the last decade—from professionals in finance, technology, law, healthcare, marketing, and hospitality—to MBA and university students from some 40 institutions across the U.S., Europe, and China.

Broadly speaking, I work with clients to help them achieve their wildly ambitious goals, to problem-solve their most pressing challenges, and to create real professional and personal change. Whether you’re:
-
transitioning into a new role;
-
navigating workplace dynamics;
-
launching a new business, project, or initiative; or
-
changing jobs or careers
...you don't have to do it alone. Using tools and practices from my background in management science, behavioral economics, and organizational psychology, I am here as your 'second brain' to help you achieve the results that you want.
Importantly, all of this is done in a safe, confidential, and nonjudgmental space. To paraphrase the famed author, executive coach, and business-school professor Stephen R. Covey, a coach is a supportive partner, not a critic. They are a guide, not a judge.
MY SPECIALTIES
STRATEGY & GOAL COACHING
Designed for clients looking for accountability and thought leadership with ambitious new businesses, initiatives, or projects. In strategic coaching, I help clients formulate concrete goals, complete with key milestones, and timetables. I also build in accountability with regular coaching meetings, where I help clients diagnose obstacles, identify root causes, and talk through problem-solving. Finally, I use proven methods from organizational-psychology research taught at Columbia University to help clients maintain motivation from ideation to completion.
CAREER DEVELOPMENT & JOB-SEARCH COACHING
With a background in job-market research at Harvard Business School and Columbia University, I work with clients at all stages of career development, including: (a) self-discovery of skills, abilities, and values; (b) ideal-job profiling, (c) how to network with people who actually have the power to hire you, (e) finding jobs that aren't listed online, (e) writing resumes and cover letters that get you in the door; (f) interview coaching and preparation, (g) negotiating and closing offers.
PRODUCTIVITY, ORGANIZATION, & TIME MANAGEMENT
PEOPLE DYNAMICS & INFLUENCE
As someone with ADHD, I understand what it's like to feel overwhelmed, disheveled, and flustered by a blizzard of tasks, appointments, emails, text messages, missed calls, and calendar events. Fortunately, there are best practices for managing your tasks, reclaiming your time, and mitigating the risks of unforseen deadlines—including tools for task management and calendar-keeping, and even tactics for negotiating work expectations with bosses, colleagues, clients, and other stakeholders, which I teach clients as part of my work.
How do you deliver feedback that's both honest and considerate? How do you manage expectations with your boss? How do you challenge someone's thinking (or behavior) without creating destructive conflict? These questions bedevil even the most brilliant of professionals. Fortunately, there are skillful ways of handling these situations, and I offer coaching around topics like negotiation, team dynamics, client relationships, managing 'up,' managing 'down,' managing 'across' (e.g., partnerships), and managing conflict.
